Central Air Conditioning Units

When summer heats you home to an uncomfortable level, it is time to consider getting a central air conditioner. There are different sizes and types of these that are sufficient to cool an entire home or a very small apartment or room. Deciding on which one to choose can leave you somewhat overwhelmed and can be confusing.

The size of the area you are cooling will be important when deciding on which type of unit to purchase. Some are intended specifically for small areas and will not work well otherwise. These are the small window units that can cool a single room or maybe a couple of small rooms but nothing large. For large areas you should consider purchasing a central unit.

Central units do not need insulating whereas one that is small and either sits in a window or a wall needs to have insulation places completely around the unit. They rarely fit the opening perfectly and unless some type of tape or insulation is used, hot air can get into the area you are trying to cool. The tape makes the unit much more efficient and prevents large electric bills.

Central ACs are larger units that are usually connected to your existing furnace or heat pump. They usually pull the hot air out of your home and blows cold air back in. Located outside the home, they are wired directly to your current fuse or breaker box. Installing this type of air conditioner is usually more expensive but costs less in the long term because it lasts longer and is more efficient.

Your installer much first ensure that your furnace is strong enough to support any additional work it must perform for the conditioning unit. This could mean replacing the furnace if it is old and does not allow the connection. That would mean more expense but is well worth the investment. With a new furnace as well as air unit, you are ensured that both will continue to operate in good condition.

Costs associated with running a central unit over a portable one is another consideration. Although the initial costs are greater for the central unit than the portable, portable units can actually cost more to operate. Since they use a lower BTU or British Thermal Unit, it takes longer to cool the air than its larger counterpart. The higher the BTU a unit offers, the more sufficient it is a cooling.

It is a common fact that it can sometimes cost more initially to run a central conditioner but once your home is cooled completely, the unit is not required to work as hard to keep it that way. A heat pump can aid in saving you money because it actually pulls the hot air from your home, cools it and then replaces it with cool air.

If you are cooling a large home or even a large apartment, you would benefit from using central air conditioning units, by brands such as Mitsubishi air conditioners. Central units are more efficient than portable ones and can save you money in the long term.

This hub was very informative. I really am going to look into central air conditioning even though I live in an apartment.

Nice writing.
